Just as stories of brokenness, separation, and loss can dominate one’s understanding of their identity and future, so can and do exist stories of determination, sacrifice, and love.
Nyob Zoo (Hello)
My name is Bao (pronouns she/her).
I am a 2nd generation Hmong American. Like a lot of 2nd generation refugee children, there were a lot of conflict between me and my parents growing up; cultural difference, patriarchy, sexism to name a few of the problems.
It wasn’t until I became an adult that I began appreciating and redefining all the different parts of me. Part of this journey was the story telling. In a lot of cultures, story telling is connecting with our past, present, and how we want to be in the future.
With my own history, I work with 1st and 2nd generation adults who want to reclaim their lives from problems and reconnecting with themselves in more meaningful way.
If you read my story and something resonated with you, I invite you to reach out for a (free) conversation to help you make the decision on whether you want to consult with me. Please don’t hesitate to reach out even if you don’t feel that you perfectly fit my “ideal client” as mention above; we can still meet and make that decision together. If I or you feel that you are better suited with someone else I can try my best to refer/connect you with other resources.
Additionally, you can also check out my blog where I write about therapy topics and/or just thoughts that come tumbling out of my head and onto paper (figuratively).
